____________NOTES TO THE EDITOR______________
____________________________________________
Overview of Workflow
A hard drive with 3 weddings will be mailed to you. The first wedding will need to be completely edited, burned to DVDs with covers/labels/cases and mailed to Premiere Weddings Videography within 1 1/2 weeks of receiving the hard drive and each wedding will be due in 1 1/2 week intervals after that. A review copy of each completed wedding needs to be compressed and uploaded to YouSendIt.com or a DropSend.com within the first 5 days of each 1 1/2 week period so that is can be reviewed and given final approval to begin DVD authoring. Upon completion of the third wedding the hard drive containing EVERY file used to create all three weddings will be mailed back to Premiere Weddings Videography along with at least one burn DVD of each wedding. A $100 bonus will be given to the EDITOR if all 3 weddings and the final hard drive are completed correctly and mailed back 5 or more days early.
Each wedding case will include two different DVDs. The first DVD will be a shortened WEDDING FILM version of their wedding and the second DVD will be called the DOCUMENTARY version which is a full length multicam edit of the ceremony and formal events of the reception. Detailed information is provided below explaining what each DVD consists of. Its highly recommended that the editor complete the Documentary version of the video first and simply make a copy of the project file and rename it “Smith wedding film” and continue to edit from there. Doing it this way doesn’t require you to completely reedit from scratch and most of the time consuming work will be done for you making it possible to make the Film version easily and quickly. Finally if after we deliver the wedding videos to the client and they make the rare requests to have changes made that are strictly stylistic then you will need to provide use with a quote for the additional costs to make the changes and an estimated completion time.
Documentary Version
Purpose:
A video that shows a multi camera edit of the ceremony and all of the formal events at the reception in full length and with the natural audio recorded at the time. Usually 1 to 1 ½ hours in length.
Formal events included:
[ ] Grand Entrance
[ ] First Dance,
[ ] All Speeches,
[ ] Garter and Bouquet Toss
[ ] Any Special Games or Dances
[ ] Father and Daughter Dance
[ ] Mother and Son Dance
[ ] 3-10 minutes of various shots of guests at tables and dancing (with added music if needed)
[ ] Any final messages left by guests.
Technical:
[ ] Basic fades, dip up and down to black transitions or cuts where appropriate.
[ ] Color correct ALL footage so multiple cameras match each other and skin tone and scene seems slightly warm and vivid.
[ ] Any shaky camera footage should not be used unless you feel its content is extremely essential to the client. In most cases a shaky shot can be replaced with an appropriate clip from another camera taking place at or about the same time.
[ ] Any footage that appears somewhat dark should be fixed while keeping an eye on maintaining important highlight detail and a dark black in the shadows. Any essential video clips that are significantly too dark and becomes very noisy if raised to the proper level should be run thru the proper program to raise the apparent exposure closer to a “normal” level while striking a balance with how grainy the video may appear to the average viewer. In extreme cases sometimes turning the footage black and while with a motion picture film effect helps the over all perception of the footage.
[ ] Audio levels need to be consistent thru out the entire video with no essential audio averaging below -6 db nor too high that it distorts.
[ ] Any essential audio clip that is too low and becomes very noisy if raised to the proper level needs to be run thru a audio program to minimize the noise while maintaining a nature tone to the audio.
Wedding Film Version
Purpose:
More cinematic in style and pace, the film version is a creative blend of live audio, music and effects to tell the story of the wedding day in a way that would be entertaining for anyone to watch. Most events are shortened, layered on top of each other or sometimes reedited in a somewhat non-linear “time shifting” style to make it shorter yet more interesting to watch. Final video is usually 25 to 45 minutes in length.
Most important clips to included are:
[ ] Titled introduction with shots of the hotel or wedding site. (1-3 minutes)
[ ] Footage with interesting or funny live audio and beautiful shots of the bride and groom, parents and friends getting ready. Add background music to this section.
[ ] Ceremony to subtle background music with (3 -7 minutes):
– wedding party walking down the isle
- bride walking down the isle
- grooms reaction
- father giving her daughter away
- introduction by the officiant
- vows
- any personalized part of the officiant’s speech that is directed to the bride and groom
- any important shot of the parents and wedding party during the ceremony
- announcement that they are husband and wife
- kiss the bride
- crowds reaction
- and bride and grooms walk down the isle
[ ] Photo Session to music (2-5minutes)
[ ] Introduction to the Reception (2-5 minutes). Most beautiful shots of the reception room and guests during cocktail hour
[ ] Shorten, layered or Time Shifted Grand Entrance
[ ] Shorten, layered or Time Shifted First Dance
[ ] Shorten, layered or Time Shifted Speeches
[ ] Shorten, layered or Time Shifted Garter and Bouquet Toss
[ ] Shorten, layered or Time Shifted Father and Daughter Dance
[ ] Shorten, layered or Time Shifted Mother and Son Dance
[ ] Various shots of guests, parents and wedding party talking, having fun or dancing in one section or spread thru out the video where appropriate.
A 3-5 minute highlight video consisting of the very best shots or important moments. If possible try to use at least some new shots that you didn’t have earlier in the video. Often times all shots are edited in slow motion for this section if the pace of the music calls for it.
[ ] Closing title on black with the bride and grooms first names (ie: “Eric & Karen”)
Technical:
All technical requirement for the documentary version of the video remain the same for the film version with the exception of the following:
[ ] Nearly, if not all of the video will have added music either subtly in the back ground or completely over the footage.
[ ] The choice of music is ultimately up to the editor unless otherwise noted. Never the less, if the client provides music it should always be considered first and no hip hop, rap or country music can be used unless specifically supplied by the client. ALL music libraries, effects, titles, project files and special materials provided or created by the EDITOR from there computer must be copied to the hard drive provided by PWV to insure full playback compatibility when it comes time to use the hard drive on a PWV computer.
[ ] When using music in the background and also having audio of someone speaking that needs to be heard it is recommended you use a instrumental song without lyrics or at the very least lower the music track so that it supports but doesn’t compete with hearing what is being said.
[ ] Listen for beats and dramatic changes in a song so that the editing is in sync with the music.
[ ] Color can be turned to black and white or can be shifted towards a more artistic look if you feel it calls for it but in general stay away from green looking skin tones.
DVD Production:
[ ] DVD menu and case/label templates will be provided on the hard drive and must be used unless previous approval of your own templates is given. The editor will simply apply the new names and specific text to customize them.
[ ] The editor will burn and print the DVD’s, labels and covers to complete the packaging of each video.
